The application deadline is April 19. " We need people with bachelor's degrees in the three fields we've identified, " program director Maggie Austin said. " They could be people just out of college, or people hoping to make a career change. We want people who want to make a difference." Austin invites anyone interested in the program to attend an information meeting scheduled for 11: 30 a. m. Thursday, March 21, in the Surbeck Center Bump Lounge on the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology campus. Those accepted into the program will work in a rural, western South Dakota community, largely with Native American youth in middle or high school. They will earn full salary and benefits, plus a full- tuition scholarship as they work toward a fully accredited teaching degree through Black Hills State University. Information and application instructions can be found at www. teachdakota. org. Selections will be made by May 30, and an orientation for participants is scheduled for July 29 through July 31 in Spearfish. This is a one- time program, funded through a Transition to Teaching grant from the U. S. Department of Education. # 30# |
