One of Tech's teams beat some of the largest universities in the Midwest to finish eighth. Each team of three students used one computer to solve as many math problems as possible in a set amount of time. Judges assessed penalties for incorrect answers. The Tech team of Tim Jacobson, Computer Science, Rapid City; Chris Rickett, Computer Science, Highmore; and Glenn Schmitz, Computer Science, Rapid City, finished eighth. Tech's other two teams finished in 15th and 42nd place. Tech also retained its unofficial title of South Dakota Champ. The highest finish of any other South Dakota university was 32nd. Math and Computer Science Department professors Dr. Ed Corwin, Dr. Toni Logar and Dr. Gregg Stubbendieck coached the Tech teams. " Working with these teams is one of the greatest thrills of the academic year for the coaches, " Logar said. " Their excitement and enthusiasm is very contagious." Tech competed against 110 teams from throughout the Midwest and Canada. # 30#
