Those attending will tour academic departments and see demonstrations, walk through dormitories, see shows, and learn what their family members are learning at Tech. Families can register from 3 p. m. to 6: 15 p. m. Friday, Oct. 12, and from 8: 30 a. m. to 10: 30 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Surbeck Student Center. All events are free except for meals, sporting events, and the variety show. Tech invites all families to attend. Call 394- 2416 for information. The schedule: Friday, October 12, 2001 Noon - 1 p. m. Surbeck Student Center Luncheon for Academic Team Competitors and their families 1 p. m. - 5 p. m. Classroom Building, Room 112 Military Science Department Open House Visit Faculty from the Military Science Department 3 p. m. - 5 p. m. Rappel Tower, Behind the New Gym Rappelling and Rope Bridge Demonstrations The Ranger Challenge Team will give rappelling demonstrations and one- rope bridge demonstrations, weather permitting. 6 p. m. - 8 p. m. Ballroom, Surbeck Student Center Dinner and Variety Show Sponsored by TONITE. Enjoy a warm Tech welcome from President Gowen and a dinner while watching many of the talented Tech students, faculty, and staff entertain you while they compete for cash prizes. Tickets are required for the Dinner, or you may join us for open seating at 7: 00 pm at no charge. - more- - page 2- Saturday, October 13, 2001 9 a. m. - 10 a. m. Residence Halls Residence Hall Open Houses Football breakfast for players and their families ( register/ pay fees with Athletic Department. 10 a. m. - 10: 20 a. m. Surbeck Student Center Ballroom Please join us to learn about Traditions at Tech 10: 30 a. m. - Noon Academic College and Department Activities College of Earth Systems will have a presentation by Dr. Sangchul Bang from 10: 30 - 11 a. m. with department tours from 11 a. m. - noon. College of Interdisciplinary Studies will have an information booth, staffed by faculty, to discuss the program with students and/ or parents. College of Materials Science and Engineering will be hosting a " Tailgate Party" behind the Chemistry Building and conducting department tours. If weather will not cooperate the tailgate party will be in Chemistry, Room 228. College of Systems Engineering Math and Computer Science— Dr. Logar, Dr. Weiss and Gail Schmidt will be giving a presentation on MODIS in particular and " satellite stuff" in general from 11 a. m. - 11: 45 a. m. in McLaury, Room 306. Electrical and Computer Engineering Open House. Mechanical Engineering - Open House that includes tours of two labs and a student organization representative who will give a brief talk: Cars/ Vehicles - Dan Dolan Civil Mechanical Bldg - Caterpillar Student Center/ Lab Wind Tunnel - Greg Buck Civil Mechanical Bldg - Room 125 ASME/ HPV - Aaron Costello Civil Mechanical Bldg - Caterpillar Student Center/ Lab Industrial Engineering - Open House that includes the following labs: Computer Integrated Mfg. Civil Mechanical Bldg Human Factors Lab Civil Mechanical Bldg - Room 307 Noon - 1 p. m. O'Harra Stadium Tailgate or Miner's Shack, Surbeck Student Center Lunch Join your student for lunch at the pre- game tail- gate picnic or at the Miner's Shack Snack Bar. Whichever option you choose, you will get a great all- you- can- eat meal. Pay at time of meal. Tech students with a meal plan do not need to purchase an additional ticket. 1 p. m. - 4 p. m. O'Harra Stadium Football: Tech Hardrockers vs. Dakota State Trojans Cheer the Hardrockers as they battle on the gridiron. Tickets are required, but you may purchase them at the gate. The SDSM& T Hot Rockers Dance Team will be performing at half time. 4: 30 p. m. - 6: 30 p. m. SDSM& T President's Reception at Dr. & Mrs. Gowen's Home 7 p. m.
