Tech will host a dedication ceremony for the Griebel Laboratory at 9 a. m. today, Friday, Sept. 21. The laboratory is located in the Caterpillar Student Excellence Center just south of the King Center. The lab was made possible through a major gift from Elizabeth Griebel the Paul G. Griebel Student Project Laboratory Endowment. The earnings from the Griebel Endowment fund will provide annual awards to benefit the student teams that work in the lab. The money will be used for laboratory equipment, computer software and hardware, measurement and specialty tools, laboratory furnishings, and other items that will enhance the hands- on experience that students gain through participation in the team competition activities. Elizabeth Griebel established the Paul G. Griebel Student Projects Laboratory Endowment to honor her husband of 48 years and his commitment to Tech. Paul Griebel joined Caterpillar Inc. in 1942 and retired in 1984 as Vice President. He recruited a multitude of tech graduates that became valued Caterpillar employees. Paul was also influential in obtaining significant laboratory equipment for the university and in developing strong friendships with faculty and staff. Because of his devotion to the institution, Paul was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Engineering in 1974. Elizabeth and the family have remained friends of Tech. The endowment will serve as an everlasting reminder of the entire Griebel family's interest and dedication to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. # 30# |
