Sixteen golf teams, many volunteers and the generosity of sponsors made the tournament a success. All money raised will benefit the Children's Science Center, an outreach program of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The Center will use the money to augment exhibits. The Leadership Rapid City Class of 2000 sponsored the tournament. After the tournament, players went to the Children's Science Center for dessert and awards. Prizes were given to players who hit the longest drives, sank the longest putts and hit the ball closest to a water hazard. No one aced the ninth hole, a feat that would have earned someone a 2001 Harley- Davidson Road King worth more than $ 19, 000. " Our class was very interested in providing opportunities for youth in our area and to provide educational opportunities, " Leadership Rapid City class member and tournament chairman Robin Stambaugh said. Stambaugh also is senior secretary in the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology's Office of University and Public Relations. The tournament winners: First Place: Jeff Heck, Rodell Gross, Jim Walraven and Steve Pabst. Second Place: Rod Pappel, Lana Thom, Sandy Carlson and Karri Aanderud Third Place: Ray Graff, Pam Graff, Willie Davis and J. C. Broman Fourth Place: Amy Gab, Jeremy Schunneman, Dan Green and Tom Houghton # 30# |
