Twenty- one people from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin have been granted fellowships for 2001. Fields represented by fellows include arts administration, business administration, education, engineering, health administration, historic preservation, human services, journalism, law, public administration, nursing, and trade unionism. McCarville has been at Tech since 1997. She earned a bachelor's degree at UCLA and a master's degree from the Colorado School of Mines. McCarville will use the fellowship to complete a doctorate degree in geology at South Dakota Tech. During the past 36 years, the Bush Leadership Fellows Program has granted more than 1, 100 mid- career fellowships. The Bush Leadership Fellows Program was established in 1965 to provide accomplished and motivated individuals with educational opportunities that prepare them for greater leadership responsibilities within their professions and communities. Fellowships range in length from two to eighteen months. New applications are available in August, and fellowships are granted in the spring. Applicants are selected on the basis of leadership potential, intellect, involvement in community activities, and ability to articulate goals and plans for use of the fellowship and for their future contributions to their fields and communities. Eligible applicants are U. S. citizens or permanent residents who are at least 28 and not older than 54 at the time of the application due date. The Foundation awards fellowships to applicants living in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or in some northwestern Wisconsin counties. Applicants must be employed at the time they apply and have at least five years of full- time work experience. # 30# |
