Tuesday, April 29: United Campus Ministry Forum: " Will Our Culture Survive in a Salad Bowl or a Melting Pot?" 12: 00 noon - 1: 00 p. m., Bump Lounge, Surbeck Center Lunch available at 11: 30 a. m. SDSM& T's SKILL Community Outreach Forum: " South Dakota's New Juvenile Penal System" 10: 45 - 11: 30 a. m., Central High School Theater Speaker will be Mike Kusiek from South Dakota's Boot Camp. This weekly forum is part of the community outreach activities of Tech's SKILL ( Scientific Knowledge for Indian Learning and Leadership) program. Sponsored by Communities in Schools, the forum's purpose is to promote American Indian students within the community and among their peers. American Association of Petroleum Geologists Visiting Scientist Seminar 1: 00 p. m., Room 222, Mineral Industries Bldg: " New Interpretations of Laramide Structures, Bighorn Basin, Wyoming 2 - 4 p. m., Room 332, MI Bldg: " The Use of Seismic Sections to Interpret Geological Structures" Visiting AAPG Scientist Don Stone will present two seminars on the structural geology of the Rocky Mountain basins. Wednesday, April 30: " Friendship in the Age of AIDS" 7: 00 p. m., Surbeck Center Ballroom Sponsored by Tech's TONITE organization, the program describes the impact of AIDS on the lives of two college friends. Thurs- Fri, May 1- 2: Workshop on Northern High Plains Convective Storms 8: 00 a. m. - 4: 30 p. m., Thurs; 8: 30- 12: 00, Fri; Surbeck Bump Lounge The workshop will focus on the forecasting of severe convective weather in the Northern High Plains. Presenters include individuals from five National Weather Service offices, several Tech faculty and graduate students, KOTA, Ellsworth Air Force Base and the Univ. of Wyoming. Friday, May 2: Symphonic Band, Jazz Band & Brass Quintet Concert Special guest: J. Ed Goodman, trumpet virtuoso 7: 30 p. m., Surbeck Center Ballroom Directed by Ron Scheusner, the Tech Symphonic Band concert will feature special guest, J. Ed Goodman, as professional trumpet virtuoso. Goodman is the former leader of the jazz fusion band, Kinesis, and has performed with such artists as Barbara Streisand, Tony Bennett, Doc Severinsen, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tom Jones, Neil Sadaka, Diana Ross, Dean Martin and others. Fri- Sat, May 2- 3: American Cancer Society Relay for Life 1997 6: 00 p. m., Friday until 12: 00 noon Saturday, O'Harra Stadium 6: 00 p. m.: Survivors Walk - 1st lap of relay 10: 00 p. m.: Luminary Ceremony in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to cancer and in honor of individuals who have survived cancer. 35 teams, including six from Sturgis High School, have signed up for the 1997 Relay for Life to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. The event will feature entertainment, games, songs and other activities throughout the evening and Saturday morning.
