St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( May 12, 1997) CUSTER STUDENTS WIN HONORS IN 1997 SDSM& T WEST RIVER MATH CONTEST Four Custer High School students won honors in the recent 1997 SDSM& T West River Math Contest. Approximately 300 students from 28 area high schools competed in this year's competition, which was held on the South Dakota Tech campus on April 26th. The Custer students who won awards are as follows: Aaron Whiting -- 1st place Geometry; Steven Kreeger -- 3rd place Geometry; Lorraine Meyer -- 2nd place Algebra II; and Jessie Akers -- 3rd place Advance Math. Aaron Whiting also was the overall winner in the Geometry Division. The schools were divided into two classes of competition based on enrollment. Custer competed in Class A against 16 other schools. Students competed in five contest divisions -- Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Advanced Math and Masters. Members of South Dakota Tech's Mathematics and Computer Science Department prepared and scored the tests.
