St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( May 12, 1997) LEAD STUDENTS WIN HONORS IN 1997 SDSM& T WEST RIVER MATH CONTEST Three Lead High School students won honors in the recent 1997 SDSM& T West River Math Contest. Approximately 300 students from 28 area high schools competed in this year's competition, which was held on the South Dakota Tech campus on April 26th. The Lead High School students who won awards are as follows: Kortny Hall – 1st place Advanced Math; Jacquie Goss – 2nd place Geometry; and Gretchen Graff – 4th place Algebra II. Kortny Hall also was the overall winner in the Advanced Math Division. The schools were divided into two classes of competition based on enrollment. Lead competed in Class A against 16 other schools. Students competed in five contest divisions -- Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Advanced Math and Masters. Members of South Dakota Tech's Mathematics and Computer Science Department prepared and scored the tests.
