St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 22, 2001 Contact: Steve Buchholz, Public Information Manager, 394- 6082 46th High Plains Science Fair at Tech on Friday More than 400 sixth- through 12th- graders will bring science and engineering projects to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology on Friday, March 23, for the 46th High Plains Regional Science and Engineering Fair. The fair will feature 350 entries from students across South Dakota and nearby states. It runs from 7 a. m. to 5 p. m. in the Surbeck Student Center Ballroom and in the King Center on the Tech campus. An award ceremony will be held at 3.30 p. m. in the King Center. The event is open to the public from 3 p. m. to 5 p. m. Students in sixth through eighth grades will compete in one of the following categories: biological, physical and team. Students in ninth through 12th grades will compete in one of these divisions: medicine and health, biology, chemistry/ physics/ mathematics, engineering/ earth and space sciences and behavioral and social sciences. The top two winners in the senior division will advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in May at San Jose, Calif. ++ 30++ ( I: univrel/ pressrel/ 0700 )
