St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( May 12, 1997) AREA STUDENTS WIN HONORS IN 1997 WEST RIVER MATH CONTEST Approximately 300 students from 28 area high schools competed in the 1997 West River Math Contest which was held recently on the South Dakota Tech campus. The schools were divided into two classes of competition based on enrollment. Seventeen schools competed in Class A and eleven schools in Class B. Students competed in five contest divisions -- Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Advanced Math and Masters. Members of South Dakota Tech's Mathematics and Computer Science Department prepared and scored the tests. The top five students in each division were awarded medals and the overall winner in each division received a trophy.
