St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 30, 2000 Tech Students Named Technology Fellows Christopher Rudd, the son of Allen and Dianne Rudd of Afton, Minnesota, was one of eighteen students named a Technology Fellow at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for the 2000- 2001 academic year. Rudd is a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering. The Technology Fellows program at SDSM& T will train a team of student assistants to assist faculty in the use of instructional technologies in their courses. The team of trainees will work with faculty on their instructional technology programs. Teams will participate in a Technology Training Seminar and spend ten hours per week developing expertise and providing assistance to others. Students will work with faculty on specific projects that are selected from proposals submitted by SDSM& T faculty. Projects range from assisting in the education of faculty with Internet functions to assisting in the development of web- based designs for courses. " I'm very impressed with the quality of applicants and in the wide range of skills they bring to the program. Some students already have excellent technical skills while others will learn them, but all are bright, personable students with a real desire to learn and to teach, " said Dr. Antonette Logar, Chair and Professor, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Students were chosen on the basis of a number of qualifications, including interpersonal communication skills, GPA, computer literacy, willingness to learn, and the ability to work as team players. In addition to what they learn from the experience, Technology Fellows students will have most of their tuition and standard fees paid for each academic year. " This is an excellent way for students to help finance their education while gaining valuable job experience, " said Dr. Karen Whitehead, Vice President for Academic Affairs. ++ 30++ ( I: univrel/ pressrel/ 2000 10/ 30 technology fellows)
