St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 3388 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( May 5, 1997) SDSM& T STUDENT FROM NORA SPRINGS NAMED KENNECOTT SCHOLAR/ SCHOLARSHIP CHECK PRESENTED BY FORMER MASON CITY RESIDENT Ryan Hoel of Nora Springs, who is a student at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, has been named a recipient of the Kennecott Scholarship. He will receive a $ 3500 scholarship for the 1997- 1998 school year. In addition to the scholarship, Ryan has been selected for a paid internship this summer with Kennecott's Spring Creek Coal operation in Decker, Montana. Ryan is currently completing his junior year as a Mining Engineering major. He is the son of Ron Hoel of Nora Springs. Former Mason City resident Steve Carlisle, who is now Human Resources Manager of Kennecott's Spring Creek Coal Company, announced Hoel's selection as a Kennecott Scholar during a recent awards luncheon on the South Dakota Tech campus in Rapid City. Carlisle is a 1978 graduate of Mason City High School and attended NIACC Community College. " Ryan Hoel is to be congratulated on receiving this scholarship. We are pleased that Ryan is a part of the South Dakota Tech family, " said SDSM& T President Gowen. " We are grateful for the very generous support which Kennecott Corporation is providing to South Dakota Tech.
