The mayor presented the award to her on Monday, September 18 at the City Council Meeting. DeeAndra, who is from Lemmon, is currently a sophomore majoring in Interdisciplinary Sciences with an emphasis in Marketing and Public Relations. She was chosen because of her community and leadership involvement. DeeAndra is involved in a number of activities, both on and off campus. On campus, she has been involved in the student orientation program, the M- Week committee, TONITE ( Tech's Outrageous New Initiative for Total Entertainment) and as a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, she works with the Ronald McDonald House. Off campus, she underwent a very intensive training program on how to help victims of sexual assault and abuse and now serves as an on- call volunteer for Working Against Violence Inc. She has integrated some of the information she learned in her WAVI training into the orientation program for new students at Tech. The Millennium All Stars committee selects three recipients each month for the award. There are recipients in the past, present and future categories. In each of the categories the committee looks for candidates who have done a lot for the community and exhibit leadership qualities. In order to qualify for the past category one must have done work in the community before the flood of 1972, and winners in the present category are people who have been strongly involved in the community since the flood. Interested candidates may pick up an application at the City Hall, Chamber of Commerce, or the Dahl Fine Arts Center. ++ 30++ ( I: univrel/ pressrel/ 2000 10/ Sandgren)
