Ritchie is Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and specializes in printmaking and drawing. He received his Masters of Fine Arts in printmaking from Indiana University. He says of his work: " Image making is a way for me to explain and explore the world. Hiking, gardening, and travel are all major influences on my work. However driving down the road and seeing a running dog or flying sparrow have equal influence on my work. Like 17th century Protestant Dutch artists, the sacredness of daily experience is at the heart of the subject of my work." Ritchie's images are rich in forms and symbols that have been delicately applied to the paper. The edges of which, are allowed to remain torn and deckeled, as if the drawing is actually a sacred and well- worn manuscript. The beauty and mystery of his images are further emphasized by his subtle use of color and their small scale.
