St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 8, 2000 LOCAL STUDENTS HONORED FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION AT SDSM& T At the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) five students from Sioux Falls were recognized for their participation on the Tech campus. Scott Fritz, Steven Radabaugh, and Holly Lipp were honored at the second annual Leadership Recognition Reception that recognized individual students for their campus leadership. Fritz is a freshman, mechanical engineering major; Radabaugh is a sophomore, computer science major; and Lipp is a senior, civil and environmental engineering major at Tech. SDSM& T President Dr. Richard Gowen and his wife Nancy welcomed over 80 students into their home to thank them for their dedication and commitment to the university. Student leaders from all facets of campus life were invited to the reception including athletic team captains, peer advisors, resident assistants, and more. The Leadership Recognition Reception was organized through Tech's Student Leadership Development Team together with Michelle Howell, Director of Surbeck Student Center. Nathan Svoboda and Justin Allen Wieman were also recognized by Dr. Gowen for their participation in the Senior Design Fair held April 18 on the Tech campus. Svoboda is a senior, mechanical engineering major, and Wieman is a junior, chemical engineering major at Tech. SDSM& T's campus- wide demonstration of the design method showcases senior capstone projects from students in the departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Geological Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Metallurgical Engineering, and Mining Engineering.
