St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 8, 2000 LOCAL STUDENT HONORED AT LEADERSHIP RECOGNITION RECEPTION At the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) Second Annual Leadership Recognition Reception, Shawn Ericsson of Mobridge was recognized by SDSM& T President Dr. Richard Gowen for his participation in the Senior Design Fair held April 18, 2000 on the Tech campus. Ericsson is a senior, mechanical engineering major at Tech. SDSM& T's campus- wide demonstration of the design method showcases senior capstone projects from students in the departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Geological Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Metallurgical Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Private industry and government agencies have provided external funding for some of the student projects. Brent Scheele of Belle Fourche was recognized for his student leadership on the Tech campus. Scheele is a junior, civil and environmental engineering major at Tech. SDSM& T President Dr. Richard Gowen and his wife Nancy welcomed over 80 students into their home to thank them for their dedication and commitment to the university. Student leaders from all facets of campus life were invited to the reception including athletic team captains, peer advisors, resident assistants, and more.
