St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 26, 2000 LOCAL STUDENT SELECTED AS NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION LEADER AT SDSM& T Jessica Kienow of Aberdeen was selected in March as a 2000 Orientation Leader at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). The group of twenty- nine students has been meeting regularly throughout the Spring semester to prepare for the arrival of new students in the upcoming summer and fall semesters. Kienow is a freshman, chemical engineering major at Tech. Orientation Leaders are the first and foremost student contact with the incoming freshmen and transfer students. They are their guide, support, and source of information. " The Orientation Leaders deal with the issues that new students have, mainly making them feel at home here and helping them to meet friends in a new and unfamiliar place, " said Jason Lamont, New Student Orientation Co- Chair. In addition to helping the students feel welcome, the Orientation Leaders are also responsible for planning the week of Orientation.
