St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( April 6, 2000) LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR IS HONORED WITH OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD During the 48th Annual Honors Convocation held Thursday, March 30, at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T), Sandra Brandenburger was honored with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society ( AISES) Outstanding Teacher Award. Brandenburger is an instructor of English College preparatory classes, and Gifted Coordinator at Cheyenne- Eagle Butte High School in Eagle Butte. Ms. Brandenburger is a teacher who demands the best from her students and as a result she provides students with the necessary skills to do their best in all of their academic areas. She is a graduate of Black Hills State University and is currently working toward her Masters Degree in English at the University of South Dakota. Ms. Brandenburger will be presenting at the National Conference on Gifted and Talented Education for Native People to be held in Hilo, Hawaii in July 2000. Brandenburger was nominated for the award by Tony Fischer, a sophomore, computer engineering major at SDSM& T. Tony wrote that, " I feel that she was one of the few teachers out there who is devoted to helping high school students prepare for not only college, but also for the real world.
