Palmer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Teacher Education and a Master of Arts in English from BYU, and a Ph. D. in English from the University of California at Davis ( UCD). In her new position Palmer will be responsible for teaching the standard writing and humanities courses in rotation with other faculty. She will also be teaching courses in British Literature, her specialization. Palmer comes to Tech with extensive teaching experience having taught freshman and advanced writing courses and introductory literature courses at both BYU, UCD, and Solano Community College in Suisun, California. " After six years teaching at UC Davis, which like SDSM& T is most notably a science school, I feel very comfortable teaching the engineers and science students here at Tech, " said Palmer. " I particularly enjoy the small- school atmosphere here, where there is closer interaction and a greater degree of acquaintance among the faculty and staff and between teachers and students." " Being at a cutting- edge technological school, I look forward to enlarging my knowledge of technology, science, and their connections and interfaces with the humanities. I hope to incorporate this multidisciplinarity into my research, " she added. The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology has established a world- wide reputation as an outstanding engineering and science institution. Our graduates design, construct, and operate modern technology to meet complex challenges. Our alumni are held in the highest regard by their fellow leaders in industry, consulting, government, health and education. ++ 30++ ( I: univrel/ pressrel/ 0999 New Faculty – Sally Palmer fxd BYU) |
