St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 13, 1999 RIGGS HIGH GRADUATE ACCEPTS POSITION AT SDSM& T Dr. Brian Hemmelman, a Riggs High School graduate, recently accepted a position as Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) in Rapid City. Hemmelman earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science and Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering from SDSM& T. In his new position Hemmelmen would be responsible for teaching lectures and laboratories for undergraduate and graduate students within his department. He will also conduct research on quantum computing, spintronic and magneto- optic devices, field programmable gate arrays, reconfigurable digital systems, and electronic neural networks. Hemmelmen will also be responsible for advising students in electrical and computer engineering, and will serve on various departmental and university committees. Hemmelmen most recently was President of his own business, HEMO Research, in Rapid City. His most recent project was developing a real- time image processing system. " I have fantastic opportunities here at South Dakota Tech right now, " said Hemmelmen. " I can continue to develop academic and research ties to engineering companies around the nation and even around the world. My research colleagues are truly some of the best minds in the world. South Dakota Tech is already nationally recognized for the academic skills it teaches its students and I intend to make it equally renown for its cutting edge research."
