St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( July 9, 1997) SDSM& T MUSEUM OF GEOLOGY DIRECTOR DIGGING FOR CAMEL, COYOTE AND OTHER FOSSILS IN NORTHERN BLACK HILLS THIS SUMMER Dr. Phil Bjork, Director of the SDSM& T Museum of Geology, is spending his weekends this summer excavating for camels, coyotes, and a diverse assemblage of tiny vertebrate fossils at an important paleontological site in the northern Black Hills. The " Unwily Coyote" Site is a series of fissures and cave deposits in the Richmond Hill area of the northern Hills which is producing these important fossils. The only other place in the world where similar coyote fossils have only been found is Russia. Dr. Bjork is doing his paleontological field work at the Unwily Coyote site in addition to overseeing the on- going activities of the Museum of Geology on the Tech campus this summer. Museum hours are 8: 00a. m. - 6: 00p. m. Monday through Saturday and 12: 00 - 6: 00 p. m. on Sunday. Group tours can be arranged by appointment. Admission is free.
