St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( July 19, 1999) AREA STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FROM SDSM& T Mark Hanhardt of Sturgis, John Keefner of Black Hawk, and Tia Stalder of Whitewood were recently selected to receive scholarships at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology ( SDSM& T). Hanhardt is the recipient of the Joseph F. Nelson Endowment, and the Ruby Mauch Memorial Scholarship. The Joseph F. Nelson Endowment is awarded to an undergraduate with 3.0 GPA or above or in the upper one- fourth of his/ her class, and the Ruby Mauch Memorial Scholarship is unrestricted. Keefner is the recipient of the Joseph F. Nelson Endowment, Knecht Renewable Scholarship, and the SDSM& T Memorial Scholarship; and Stalder is the recipient of the Peggy Lee Hansen Scholarship. The Peggy Lee hansen Scholarship is a Presidential Scholarship established by Walter G. Hansen ( CE ' 53) to honor his wife. Hanhardt, Keefner, and Stalder are 1999 graduates of Sturgis Brown High School and will be freshmen at Tech in the fall. Hanhardt plans to major in phusics, Keefner plans to major in geological engineering, and Stalder plans to major in mechanical engineering. ++ 30++ ( I: univrel/ pressrel/ 0799 Scholarship local Sturgis)
