Koch is the recipient of the Bertal A. & Marguerite A. Flisnes Memorial Scholarship, and the Ronald F. Miller Memorial Scholarship. The Bertal A.& Marguerite A. Flisnes Memorial is a Presidential scholarship established by the Estate of Bertal & Marguerite Flisnes. It is for the 1999- 00 academic year and is renewable for three additional years contingent on maintaining a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and continued enrollment at SDSM& T as a full- time student. The Ronald F. Miller Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduate of a South Dakota high school. Koch is a 1999 graduate of Stickney Public School and is the son of Doug and Sharon.
