St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( May 11, 1999) AREA STUDENTS CANDIDATES FOR DEGREES FROM SOUTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MINES & TECHNOLOGY Six students from the Aberdeen area were candidates for Bachelor of Science degrees from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology ( SDSM& T) during SDSM& T's spring commencement ceremony on May 8, 1999. The five students and their areas of study were Brandon Borge of Aberdeen, chemistry, with highest honors*; Beau Brewer of Aberdeen, mechanical engineering; John Knie of Aberdeen, metallurgical engineering; Robert Anderson III of Pierpont, physics, with highest honors*; Renae Zoodsma of Ashton, computer science; and Patrick Moen of Roslyn, mechanical engineering. [* highest honors: 3.80- 4.00 GPA] The commencement address was given by Ernest Micek, chairman and CEO of Cargill Incorporated. Micek also was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Science Degree during the ceremony. Special honored guests also included South Dakota Board of Regent David Gienapp, thirty 50- year graduates from the 1949 SDSM& T class, and the 1999 Guy E. March Medallist, Dr. Paul Gnirk. The Guy E. March Medal is the highest alumni award that recognizes outstanding professional achievement.
