Ahlers is a junior Computer Engineering major at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). Out of 100 applicants, Ahlers was one out of nine recipients who received the award. Tau Beta Pi Scholarships are awarded on the competitive basis of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. All scholars are members of Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society. Two of the winners will study mechanical engineering, two computer engineering, and five have chosen other individual areas. The Nagel Scholarships are given in honor of former Secretary- Treasurer Emeritus R. H. Nagel. Named Editor of THE BENT in 1942, he became Secretary- Treasurer and Editor in 1947 and served until October 1982 when he was named Secretary- Treasurer Emeritus.
