St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( April 20, 1999) SDSM& T FACULTY RECITAL TO BE HELD APRIL 23 Faculty at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) join together in a Faculty Recital held Friday, April 23 at 7: 30 pm. Mr. Fred Ellwein, Director of Bands at SDSM& T, will play the tuba and will be accompanied by tenor Dr. James D. Feiszli, Director of Music Activities and Professor of Humanities at SDSM& T. Mr. Ellwein and Dr. Feiszli will be assisted by James Macinnes, piano, Mark Theissen, guitar, and Mary Lou Torrey, piano. Dr. Susan Reid, Director of Choral Activities at SDSM& T, will serve as host for the evening's performance. Music to be performed will include Dichterliebe, Opus 48 by Robert Schumann; Carnival of Venice Fantasia by Jean Baptiste Arban; Concerto for Bass Tuba, Part II, by R. Vaughan Williams; Three James Joyce Songs, Opus 10, by Samuel Barber; Concerto for Double Bass by Giuseppe A. Capuzzi; Anthropology by Charlie Parker; Questa o Quella and La donna e mobile from Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi; and Vainement, ma bien- aimee from Le Roi d'Ys by Eduardo Lalo. Fred Ellewin is a veteran South Dakota music educator. He began his teaching career in Mitchell, SD where he taught for nine years and directed the Mitchell Junior High School bands and was Director of Bands at Mitchell High School. He since moved to Rapid City and took over as Associate Director of Bands at Rapid City Central High School while serving as commander and conductor of the 147th U. S. Army Band of the South Dakota Army National Guard. Ellwein is currently a member of South Dakota Bandmasters, International Association of Jazz Educators, and state president of Phi Beta Mu, an international bandmasters fraternity. James Feiszli has been a faculty member at SDSM& T since 1983. He founded the Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, Master Chorale, Alumni Choirs, and a curriculum of music courses. Feiszli is the founder and former director of the Kantorei and Dakota Choral Union; and has worked with the Black Hills Community Theater, Black Hills Chamber Music Society, Black Hills Voices in Concert, Black Hills Symphony Orchestra, and Rapid City Children's Chorus.
