St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( April 22, 1999) WINNERS SELECTED IN BRIDGE CONTEST FOR ENGINEERS WEEK AT SDSM& T The winners have been selected in the Bridge Contest held during the 22nd Annual National Engineers Week at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). The top three finishers were Katie Hallock of Stanley County High School who took first place; Grant Neff of Belle Fourche High School finished in second place; and Catherine Meyer of Rapid City Stevens High School finished in third place. Dr. Mel Klasi, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at SDSM& T, together with civil engineering students and other faculty conducted the tests and tallied the results. There were a total of 140 entries from the following high schools: Stanley County, Belle Fourche, Rapid City Stevens, Rapid City Central, and Philip. Teachers for the winning entries were Mr. Gerald Allemon, Ft. Pierre; Mr. Jim Schultze of Belle Fourche, a 1978 ChemE Tech graduate; and Mr. Jerry Loomer of Rapid City Stevens, a 1972 MS Physics Tech graduate. ++ 30++ ( I: univrel/ pressrel/ 0499 Engineers week bridge results fxd stwd) |
