St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 3388 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( March 19, 1999) STURGIS AND STEVENS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TAKE TOP HONORS AT HIGH PLAINS REGIONAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR AND WIN TRIPS TO INTEL INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR IN PHILADELPHIA Two students from Sturgis Brown High School and one student from Rapid City Stevens High School won top honors at the 44th Annual High Plains Regional Science & Engineering Fair held on the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) campus today. John Keefner and Mark Hannant of Sturgis won first place for their science project entitled " Zen and the Art of Diamagnetic Water Repulsion". Ramie Ann Kingsbury of Rapid City Stevens was awarded second place for her project entitled " Cognitive, Moral and Psychosocial Development in Children". In addition to trophies, the three students won trips to the 50th Intel International Science and Engineering Fair that will be held May 2- 8, 1999, in Philadelphia, PA. The 44th Annual High Plains Regional Science & Engineering Fair featured 375 middle and high school students from 32 area schools competing in various science and engineering categories. A total of approximately $ 2, 650 in cash awards plus many additional prizes that included flags, books, backpacks, databanks, and medallions were awarded to the winners in the various categories.
