St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( March 11, 1999) MULTI- CULTURAL EXPO 99 TO BE HELD AT SDSM& T APRIL 16- 17 " THE WORLD IS COMING TO SOUTH DAKOTA - CULTURAL EXPO 99" will be hosted by groups from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) and National American University on April 16- 17, 1999. This multi- cultural festival will be held in the Surbeck Center Ballroom on SDSM& T's campus. Local and regional school children are scheduled to attend between 9: 00 a. m. and 3: 00 p. m. on Friday, April 16, 1999. The cultural exposition is open to the general public on Saturday, April 17, between 10: 30 a. m. and 2: 30 p. m. Cultural displays from Norway, Japan, India, Brazil, China, Zambia, and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society ( AISES) will be exhibited on both Friday and Saturday. There is no charge to visit the exhibits. A sampling of native foods will be offered for a nominal charge on Saturday only from 11: 30 a. m. to 2: 00 p. m. Cultural entertainment including dancing and singing also will take place between 11: 30 a. m. and 1: 00 p. m. on Saturday. Area schools and community organizations are encouraged to participate in this annual event. National American University and SDSM& T work jointly to encourage multi- cultural activities that promote friendship and cultural exchange between people of different countries and cultures. This event is sponsored by international students, AISES, the Ivanhoe International Center, National American University, and the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. Schools interested in attending the April 16th activities are requested to make reservations.
