St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( March 10, 1999) SDSM& T UNITED CAMPUS MINISTRY STUDENTS SPEND SPRING BREAK ON SERVICE WORK TOUR OF ISRAEL A group of United Campus Ministry students from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology ( SDSM& T) are spending their spring break on a service work tour of Israel. The students, under the leadership of UCM Director Donna Hughes- Hargraves, will be doing service work and learning about the region's religious and cultural heritage. The group will be visiting the Sea of Galilee, Mount Carmel, Nazareth, Sepphoris, Jordan River, Wadi Hamman, Jordan Valley, Jericho, Qumran, Jerusalem and other sites. The students will be working at a YMCA or Hope School in Bethlehem or Nazareth. Each night native speakers will share religious and cultural information about the area. SDSM& T students participating in the trip include Lori Glover ( chemistry, Sturgis); Nicole Grove ( Interdisciplinary Sciences, Rapid City); Bob Lacey ( electrical engineering, Trent); Matt Minnick ( geological engineering, Westville IN); Tiffany Pavek ( science, Rapid City) and Brad Schleeter ( civil & environmental engineering, Ham Lake MN). Community members traveling with the group include Jennifer Allen, Fran Kovarik, and Kathlene Pavek. Following the completion of their concert tour, SDSM& T's Master Chorale students are joining the UCM group from South Dakota Tech to participate in the service work and cultural activities during the remainder of spring break. Dr. Susan L. Reid, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities, conducted the concerts presented by SDSM& T's Master Chorale in Galilee, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem during the past week. The entire trip for both groups was done under the auspices of United Campus Ministry.
