TranscriptMike Arens, sonofMikeand Charlotte Arens of Springview, is a member of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). For the second successive year, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has been named the recipient of the Vice President's Award for Zone HI. Zone III includes North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Kansas City and portions of Illinois and Missouri. The award places the SDSM&T chapter in the top five of the 200 chapters in the U.S., with Mississippi State winning the top Ridgway Award. The Vice President's Award was given in recognition of the chapter's outstanding work during the 1993-1994 year, including community service projects with Habitat for Humanity, the SQ Ann Big Crow Recreation Center in Pine Ridge, ablood drive and highway cleanup. The awards were given in recognition of their professional development activities as well, including presentations to area schools and successful competitioninthel994ASCERocky Mountain regional conference held in Denver. Their concrete canoe, Outlaw, placed fourth in the 1994 national competition. As for 1995, Tech's ASCE student :hapter placed first in national competition with Predator.
