St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( March 18, 1999) SDSM& T TO HOST 44TH HIGH PLAINS REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR MARCH 19TH / 375 MIDDLE AND SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS TO COMPETE Nearly 400 middle and high school students from 32 area schools will compete in the 44th Annual High Plains Regional Science and Engineering Fair being hosted by the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) on Friday, March 19. The fair will be held from 8: 00 a. m. to 5: 00 p. m. in the Surbeck Student Center Ballroom and the Old Gym on the SDSM& T campus, with the exhibits open to the public from 3: 00 - 5: 00 p. m. An awards ceremony will be held at 3: 30 in the New Gym. Schools participating in the event include Belle Fourche, Cheyenne River, Douglas, Edgemont, Hermosa, Hot Springs, Little Wound, Newell, Ottumwa- Midland, Philip, Pine Ridge, Rapid City, Spearfish, Sturgis, Todd County, and White River. The 6th, 7th and 8th graders will compete in the biological, physical, and team categories. The senior division competition is divided into the following categories: medicine and health; biology; chemistry/ physics/ mathematics; engineering/ earth and space sciences; and behavioral and social sciences.
