St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( February 4, 1999) SDSM& T " MATTERS OF THE HEART: A HEALTH & WELLNESS EXPO" TO BE HELD FEBRUARY 11TH / OVER 40 ORGANIZATIONS SCHEDULED TO PARTICIPATE SDSM& T's " Matters of the Heart: A Health & Wellness Expo" will be held Thursday, February 11, from 11: 00 am to 2: 00 pm in the Surbeck Student Center Ballroom. Over forty community and campus organizations are scheduled to participate in providing health screenings and wellness information to faculty, students, staff and the general public. Activities include free massages, healthy snacks, purified water, fortune- telling, yoga demonstrations, arm wrestling contests, and family planning information. Participating community groups include the American Cancer Society, Rapid City Regional Hospital, American Red Cross, Positive Approach, Working Against Violence and many more. Campus groups including fraternities, sororities, TONITE, Athletics, SADD, and Residence Life will also have display tables, contests and door prizes. USD, SDSU, and Health Services nurses and nursing students will provide check- ups. " Healthy minds, healthy bodies, and healthy relationships are important goals for all of us, " said Jolie McCoy, SDSM& T Director of Counseling Services. " This event will provide an excellent opportunity to obtain information and resources to assist individuals in their journeys toward those goals." Campus and community members are welcome to attend and check their blood pressure, body mass and vision; learn cancer prevention and detection; take a stress test, ask a nurse health questions; plan a healthy diet; sample healthy snacks.
