From North Sioux City to Lemmon, from Sisseton to Edgemont and communities throughout the state, SDSM& T graduates help to power the economy of South Dakota. Who are some of the SDSM& T alumni in the City community? They include (** list alumni from that city with titles and employers). These alumni are just a small sample of the alumni in the City area and the nearly 2, 000 Tech graduates who currently reside in South Dakota. Across the state SDSM& T alumni are business owners, manufacturers, engineers, CEOs of major companies, doctors, dentists, computer programmers, attorneys, teachers, farmers, ranchers… the list goes on and on. For more than 100 years, SDSM& T has provided South Dakota students with a quality science and engineering education, as well as the job skills necessary to succeed in an ever- changing economy. From the gold mines of the 19th century to the information superhighway of the late 20th century, many SDSM& T students have put their education to good use in South Dakota after they graduate. Over the years South Dakota Tech alumni have created thousands of jobs, have helped the state's economy grow, and continue to do so today. A recent survey of SDSM& T graduates living in South Dakota showed that their current positions and professions cut across all major segments of the state's economy— business, manufacturing, agriculture, and the medical and legal professions— to name just a few. Many SDSM& T alumni own or manage companies that employ thousands of South Dakotans. Many additional jobs in the state are also directly or indirectly tied to the primary jobs created by these businesses. Whether managing the local utility company, operating an electronics manufacturing business, or utilizing telecommunications technology to provide jobs in South Dakota, SDSM& T alumni are making a difference in the lives of South Dakotans. In addition to their tremendous economic impact, SDSM& T alumni also contribute an immeasurable amount of time, talents and resources to their local communities, schools, churches and civic organizations. The leadership and entrepreneurial spirit of SDSM& T alumni in the City area help to make South Dakota a great place to receive an education, work, raise a family, and successfully compete in the global marketplace of the 21st century. ++ 30++ ( i:\ univrel\ pressrele\ 0299\ Alumni SD Economy ) |
