Bracken as the1999 SDSM& T Outstanding Recent Graduate in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Bracken, a 1984 graduate of Custer High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from SDSM& T in 1988. His parents are Nob and Judy Schoenfelder, who currently reside in Rapid City. Bracken started his career at Rockwell- Collins Commercial Avionics and developed several test plans for new Boeing 777 avionics products. The DFT guidelines that he published were recognized within the company as the standard for avionics designs resulting in the receipt of Rockwell's highest engineering honor. He then took these skills into the high volume consumer electronics business at Hewlett- Packard's ink jet printer products division. The DFM guidelines that he developed are now used for all new printer products in the division. He was named the lead engineer responsible for the cross- functional R& D/ Manufacturing team that was introducing the product that is the highest volume product in the division. His leadership in the creation of the SPARK program in Iowa is his most notable volunteer achievement. Bracken currently serves as production engineering manager for Hewlett- Packard in Vancouver, WA. He and his wife, Lori, have four children Hailee, Kelsey, Jenna and Cody. Bracken and alumni in four other engineering fields were honored as Outstanding Recent Graduates during a recent Engineers Week luncheon on the South Dakota Tech campus. SDSM& T officials established the Outstanding Recent Graduate Award to recognize alumni for their professional achievements and civic involvement within ten years of graduation. ++ 30++ Photo Caption: Dr. Richard Gowen, president of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, congratulates Scott Bracken on being designated as the 1999 Outstanding Recent Graduate in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
