St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 18, 2000 SDSM& T TO HOST 36TH ANNUAL CONCRETE CONFERENCE MARCH 3 The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will host the 36th Annual Concrete Conference on Friday, March 3, 2000, from 8: 00 a. m. to 5: 00 p. m. in the Electrical Engineering/ Physics Building, Room 252. The theme of this year's conference is " High Performance Concrete". Conference speakers and their presentation topics include the following: Jim Pierce, Bureau of Reclamation and Past President of American Concrete Institute, " HPC Case Studies;" Henry Russell, Engineering Consultant, " HPC What is it?, " and " HPC Lessons Learned;" Basile Rabbat, Manager in Engineered Structures Department of Portland Cement Association, " HPC for Bridges, �� and " ACI 318- 99 Building Code Recent Changes;" Mark Luther, Technical Support Manager for GranCem Cement, " Durability of HPC, " and " HPC is Economical;" and Edward Duke, Geology Professor, SDSM& T, " SEM Studies of Hardened Concrete." " This 36th Annual Concrete Conference builds upon the past success of concrete conferences held at SD Tech, " said Dr. M. R. Hansen, SDSM& T Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, who will serve as moderator. " We continue the tradition of hosting top- notch speakers who will provide insight into the issues faced when dealing with High Performance Concrete." Sponsors of the conference include SDSM& T's Civil & Environmental Engineering Dept.; SDSM& T's ASCE Student Chapter; Dakota Chapter of the American Concrete Institute; Dacotah Cement; Hills Materials Company; and Birdsall Sand & Gravel. The registration fee is $ 80 if received by February 25 or $ 90 after that date. Students and retirees may attend for $ 10, which includes the cost of breaks and lunch.
