Han, SDSM& T Distinguished Professor of Metallurgical Engineering and Dean of the College of Chemical, Physical and Material Sciences and Engineering, has been selected as recipient of the1997 Distinguished Alumni Award by Seoul National University. The award will be presented to Dr. Han in Seoul, Korea, on June 27th. Han has been a member of the SDSM& T faculty since 1981. He obtained his B. S. and M. S. degrees from Seoul National University, and his M. S. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Illinois and the University of California, Berkeley, respectively. Prior to joining the SDSM& T faculty, he was a lecturer and a senior lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia from 1971- 1980. His research interests include hydrometallurgy, interfacial phenomena, metallurgical kinetics, solution chemistry, fine particle recovery, and electrometallurgy. Han is the author of over 120 technical papers and holds four U. S. and a number of foreign patents. In 1993, Dr. Han received the Ernest L. Buckley Award, a State of South Dakota Governor's Award, in recognition of his industrial research efforts. In 1995, he received the Milton Wadsworth Award in recognition of his contributions in hydrometallurgy and the Arthur F. Taggart Award as recognition of a series of excellent papers in extractive metallurgy, both awards from SME/ AIME. He is Editor- in- Chief of Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy Review and currently serves as Chairman of MPD of SME.
