St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6996 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( October 14, 1997) SOUTH DAKOTA FUTURE FAIR AWARDS $ 1, 000 SCHOLARSHIP TO SPEARFISH STUDENT The South Dakota Future Fair Board of Directors recently awarded a $ 1, 000 scholarship to Jessicca L. Kemp, a 1997 graduate of Spearfish High School. A freshman at Black Hills State University this fall, Jessica plans to major in computer science and business finance. She is the daughter of Reva Kemp of Spearfish. Future Fair also awarded $ 250 scholarships to four other South Dakota students who are pursuing post secondary degrees in future technology at a South Dakota university or technical institute this fall. The scholarships were funded by proceeds from the 1996 South Dakota Future Fair. The scholarship selection criteria included a commitment by the recipients to attend a South Dakota university or technical institute. The winners of $ 250 scholarships with their hometown, university they are attending, and major are as follows: Angela Cameron, Avon, University of Sioux Falls, Mass Communications; Susan Dunn, White Lake, Dakota State University, Computer Information Systems/ Accounting; Randy Matz, Philip, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology ( SDSM& T), Computer Science and Computer Engineering; and Crystal Parsons, Spearfish, SDSM& T, Interdisciplinary Studies. A commitment has been made by the Future Fair Board of Directors to offer scholarships from the proceeds of the1998 South Dakota Future Fair, which will be held January 16- 18, 1998, in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. Designed to help both children and adults learn about emerging technology, the three- day educational event will offer a wide range of speakers, programs and exhibits to stimulate new thinking about technology and the future. Sponsors of the 1998 Future Fair are Black Hills Power & Light, Black Hills State University, KOTA Radio & TV, Norwest Bank South Dakota, Rapid City Journal, Rapid City Regional Hospital System of Care, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, and US WEST.
