St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( July 2, 1997) FRIENDSHIP FAMILY PROGRAM TO HOLD POTLUCK PICNIC ON JULY 12 The Friendship Family Program is holding a potluck picnic on Saturday, July 12, to kick off the 1997- 1998 school year with international students attending universities in Rapid City. The picnic and social activities will be held at Canyon Lake Park ( Shelter # 1 off Canyon Lake Drive) from 11: 00 a. m. - 2: 00 p. m. Interested families in the community are invited to join the international students from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and National American University to learn more about the Friendship Family Program. The Friendship Family program allows interested families the opportunity to share cultural experiences and offer a family support system to international students attending SDSM& T or National American University. It is a family visitation program and not a home- stay or live- in program. Families and students would be able to enjoy outings, dinners, movies and/ or other activities of interest to both parties. Contact between students and families is encouraged to occur on a monthly basis throughout the school year. SDSM& T and National American University have formed an informal alliance to provide more opportunities for international students to become involved in campus and community activities.
