St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( January 11, 1999) ROCK SPRINGS STUDENT ELECTED SECRETARY OF SDSM& T'S STUDENT CIVIL ENGINEERS CHAPTER Jennifer Trenary of Rock Springs was recently elected recording secretary of the American Society of Civil Engineers ( ASCE) Student Chapter at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). A 1995 graduate of Rock Springs High School, Jennifer is a senior civil engineering major at SDSM& T in Rapid City, South Dakota. She is the daughter of Phil and Terrie Trenary and Judy and Chuck Kirby of Rock Springs. The ASCE student chapter at SDSM& T participates in the Rocky Mountain Regional Conference each spring and many other activities throughout the year. Current projects include concrete canoe, steel bridge, technical paper presentation, non- technical paper presentation, mystery design problem, pre- design problem, and the restoration of the Creston Dinosaur. SDSM& T's student chapter has a strong tradition of designing and racing concrete canoes. SDSM& T has placed first in nine of the past eleven regional competitions and has finished in the top five in nationals three times. South Dakota Tech won the National Concrete Canoe Competition in 1995 and hosted the national competition last summer in Rapid City.
