St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( October 20, 1997) LEMMON NATIVE PRESENTS $ 71, 000 CHECK TO SDSM& T FROM DOW CHEMICAL COMPANY During a recent campus visit to interview and recruit South Dakota Tech students, Trudy ( Colgrove) Wells, a native of Lemmon, presented a $ 71, 000 check from Dow Chemical Company to the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. A graduate ( Chemical Engineering ' 84) of SDSM& T, Trudy is the daughter of Delores and Albert Colgrove of Lemmon. Trudy presented Dow's check to SDSM& T President Dr. Richard J. Gowen and Dr. James Munro, Chair of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, along with Deanna Bounds, who also is a Tech graduate ( ChemE 95). Dow Chemical's $ 71, 000 contribution to SDSM& T is to be used for improving South Dakota Tech's chemical engineering curriculum by integrating chemical engineering design through process simulation. SDSM& T's Chemical Engineering ( ChemE) program has been a pioneer in the use of state- of- the- art process simulation systems in the teaching of the capstone senior design course for chemical engineering seniors. The Dow Chemical Company's financial support will enable Tech to purchase a high level engineering workstation that will allow ChemE students from the freshman level through the senior year to utilize the ASPEN PLUS and other process simulation software packages for chemical engineering design projects. " We are grateful for this generous support to South Dakota Tech and are pleased by the success of our alumni with the Dow Chemical Company, " said SDSM& T President Gowen. " This gift will greatly enhance our chemical engineering curriculum and help ensure that Tech's ChemE graduates have the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the chemical industry's challenges of the 21st century." Nearly 50 Tech alumni are currently employed by Dow Chemical Company. [ Photo: Pictured ( l. to r.) are Dr. Richard J.
