St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( September 8, 1998) SDSM& T TO PARTICIPATE IN 1998 SOUTH DAKOTA EPSCOR CONFERENCE Thirty faculty, graduate students and administrators from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) will participate in the 1998 South Dakota EPSCoR ( Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) Conference being held Friday, September 11, at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Officials from the National Science Foundation ( NSF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA) will meet with research faculty from SDSM& T, South Dakota State University, and the University of South Dakota during the conference to describe their agency's programs and research funding opportunities. The EPSCoR program in South Dakota is a three- way partnership among the National Science Foundation, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and South Dakota's three research universities ( SDSM& T, SDSU, and USD) designed to enhance the state's scientific research competitiveness. South Dakota is one of 18 states that currently participates in the national EPSCoR program. Funded by the National Science Foundation, EPSCoR promotes scientific research and development by utilizing a state's academic science and technology resources. Dr. Royce C. Engstrom, Professor of Chemistry at USD, serves as Project Director of the South Dakota EPSCoR program.
