St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( August 4, 1998) LAKE NORDEN STUDENT AWARDED 4- YEAR PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP AT SDSM& T Ethan Swanson of Lake Norden was recently selected to receive the Keith Boylan Presidential Scholarship at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). The scholarship, which is in the amount of $ 1, 900 for the 1998- 99 academic year, is renewable for three additional years contingent on maintaining a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and continued enrollment at SDSM& T as a full- time student. Ethan is a 1998 graduate of Hamlin High School, where he was actively involved with math and science teams, photography, the school newspaper, National Honor Society, and debate. He will be a freshman at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology ( SDSM& T) this fall and plans to major in civil engineering. " The roads of the nation are in poor shape and dams are starting to silt in. These problems need to be fixed before they become serious, and that's the job of a civil engineer, " stated Swanson in his scholarship application essay. " I would like to find better ways to deal with those problems.
