Accredited by North Central Association for Colleges and Secondary Schools. Academic departments include College of Earth Systems, College of Interdisciplinary Studies, College of Material Sciences & Engineering, and College of Systems Engineering. Programs offered in all major branches of engineering and the physical sciences with degrees offered at the bachelor, master, and Ph. D. levels. The College of Interdisciplinary Studies offers technically oriented studies in management, business and writing leading to a baccalaureate degree. Career planning and placement are top priorities. Upon graduation, 80% of SDSM& T engineering and science students have relevant work experience through undergraduate cooperative education and summer internships with industry partners. Nearly ¾ of new graduates receive job offers within six months with another 20% continuing on to graduate/ professional school. Starting salaries for SDSM& T graduates average more than $ 39, 600 for engineering majors and $ 33, 600 in science fields. Every year SDSM& T student teams prepare to compete in several national academic and multi- disciplinary vehicle contests— including computer programming, concrete canoe, Mini- Baja, Mini- Indy, and solar car competitions.
