The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Larissa Naples, a nationally recognized private consultant who works with a number of large engineering schools on meta- assessment models and ABET Criteria 2000. This half- day workshop will introduce participants to the basic concepts underlying curriculum- embedded evaluation and assessment. Participants will learn how the information contained in a meta- assessment rubric can be used to integrate and streamline course design, instruction, and assessment activities. Participants will be introduced to the processes of designing and scoring outcomes- oriented examinations, portfolio assessments, and " authentic task" assessments. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to: ( 1) describe the theoretical premises of curriculum- embedded evaluation; ( 2) use a preexisting assessment rubric ( AR) to develop a lesson plan for teaching the outcome( s) in the AR, including the selection of classroom assessment methods appropriate for measuring and documenting those outcomes; ( 3) justify the choice of teaching and assessment activities based on the principles of CEE. This will be achieved through a combination of interactive lecture, hands- on lesson/ assessment design activities, and group discussion of assessment designs. For additional information, contact Dr. Stuart Kellogg, SDSM& T Pietz Associate Professor and Coordinator of Industrial Engineering, at 394- 1271. ++ 30++ ( f:\ programs\ dept\ univrel\ pressrele\ 1197\ Bush Curriculum Workshop fax/ local) |
