| Transcript | October 30, 1997 Mr. Robb Timm, Executive Director Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Black Hills 2525 W. Main Street Rapid City, SD 57702 Dear Robb: I commend Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Black Hills for the important services that you and your volunteers provide to the Black Hills area. Your dedicated volunteers have a very positive impact on many young people in our communities who need role models, companionship and guidance in their lives. The good work being done by the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization on a daily basis is too often taken for granted. Over the years your civic- minded volunteers have touched the lives of countless individuals. Their efforts have provided many contributions, both tangible and intangible, to the betterment of our community by guiding young people through the challenging years between being a child and maturing into a young adult. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology strongly supports the activities and philosophy of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Black Hills. In previous years, your volunteers frequently have brought their Little Brothers and Little Sisters to our SDSM& T campus to use our bowling and other recreational facilities. The Praxis Project implemented this fall on our campus offers additional community service opportunities for SDSM& T students to get involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Black Hills. Spearheaded by Donna Hughes- Hargraves of United Campus Ministry, SDSM& T's Praxis Project is the first on a South Dakota campus. Praxis seeks to involve students in service- learning opportunities that are integrated into their academic curriculum. I am pleased by your organization's participation in our campus Praxis and hope that increased number of SDSM& T students become Big Brothers and Big Sisters for the young people in our community who benefit from this program. In addition to our institution's past and current support of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program, the South Dakota Tech family stands ready to provide additional assistance to your organization whenever possible with public relations efforts, media releases about joint campus- Big Brothers/ Big Sisters activities, and facilitating attendance by your volunteers and their Little Brothers and Little Sisters at campus events. Please let me know whenever the South Dakota Tech family can be of help to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Black Hills. Keep up the good work! Sincerely, Richard J. Gowen President |
