St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 3388 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( April 9, 1997) 5 SDSM& T SKILL STUDENTS WIN AWARDS AT AMERICAN INDIAN SCIENCE AND ENGINERING SOCIETY NATIONAL SCIENCE FAIR Five Indian students from SDSM& T's SKILL ( Scientific Knowledge for Indian Learning and Leadership) Program won honors in the recent American Indian Science and Engineering Society ( AISES) National Science Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Two of Tech's SKILL students will represent AISES at the International Science Fair. Aelgifa Hong- Ruddy and Heidi Peterson won first place in the behavioral sciences team project category for their " How It Works" project. The International Science Fair will be held ----? The other SDSM& T SKILL students who also won awards at the AISES National Science Fair for their projects include: Jennie Bissonette, hometown?: First Place- Traditional- 9th Grade Biology Project: " Growth Effects on Plants and Vegetables" Alejandra Lara, hometown?: Third Place- 7th Grade Physical Science Project: " Inflation vs. Distance" Cassie Brewer, hometown?: Special Award- 8th Grade Environmental Science Project: " How Does Storm Water Runoff Affect Rapid Creek?" " We are proud of these students on their achievements and interest in science.
