DescriptionOld College Hall was originally known as College Hall and was built in 1889 on the foundations of Merrill hall-- the first building on the DWU campus which was destroyed by a fire in 1888. College Hall was destroyed by a fire in 1955. The building was replaced by New College Hall (later re-named renamed Matthew D. and Loretta Smith Hall in 1971) built a little north of the area where Merrill and College Hall were located. When Old College Hall was built it housed DWU's president and students and contained the school's classrooms, art studios, dining hall, kitchen, gymnasium and library.
