DELIVERANCE IS THIS WEEK’S FEATURED FILM IN DEVEREAUX LIBRARY’S 1998 NOSTALGIA NIGHT SERIES
This week’s featured film in the Devereaux Library’s 1998 Nostalgia Night Series is Deliverance. The movie will be shown at 6: 00 p. m., Sunday, March 8, in the Elks Theatre. Nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, the 1972 film is based on the best selling novel by James Dickey, who plays the sheriff in the movie.
Deliverance is the story of four men on a weekend canoe trip that turns into a frenzied retreat from horror. The film, which was Ned Beatty’s first movie, also stars Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight, and Ronny Cox. The “ Dueling Banjos” music is featured in the soundtrack.
Marlon Brando reportedly was originally cast to star in the movie but turned down the part. After seeing Burt Reynolds on The Tonight Show, Director John Boorman asked Burt Reynolds to read for the part turned down by Brando.
Admission is by series ticket booklets or by individual tickets sold at the door for $ 4 on a space available basis.
